A halibut swimming on a sandy bottom in camoflauge.

Found on sand and mud bottoms to depths of 600 feet. Will also feed in shallow water along sand beaches even inside the surf line in a few feet of water. Size can range to five feet or more with weights in excess of seventy pounds. Both eyes are on their left side.

Range: Washington State to Magdalena Bay Baja Mexico
