Rolled on side, raised pectoral fin. Blue Whales feed almost exclusively on krill and will eat thousands of pounds per day.
When feeding near the surface, Blue Whales can extend their heads completely out of the water as they lunge forward through a mass of krill. This animal has rolled on its side and is moving from right to left. What you are seeing is the underside of its chin with its numerous parallel pleats. These are also referred to as ventral or throat grooves.
Range: Found worldwide. In the Pacific Ocean they range from the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico
Species: Balaenoptera musculus
