In the early 1900s it was said that in some areas of the High Sierra Mountains the Mountain Yellow-Legged Frogs were so thick you could walk across lakes on them.
Since that time over 90% of their known population has disappeared. Their plummeting numbers are believed to have been caused by the introduction of non-native trout.

The trout feed on the tadpoles and juvenile frogs.
Range: Sierra Nevada mountains in California and Nevada and the San Gabriel San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains in southern California.
