Founded in 1798, Mission San Luis Rey de Francia is known as the "King of the Missions," and largest of the 21 California missions, it is open to the public. It is located in Oceanside, California, in northern San Diego County.

It is the eighteenth of the twenty-one California missions and was the last to be built in the south.

The mission is a popular subject for local artists. It is a registered National Historic Landmark.
