In addition to the commensal butterfish, this photo also reveals small crabs, which have hitched a ride on this jellyfish.
A very large jellyfish species, its bell can measure over three feet across and its ribbon like oral arms can trail behind over twenty feet in length.
These jellyfish are rarely seen but can occur in large swarms off Southern California such as occurred in 1989 and 1999.
Range: Undetermined - Believed to be Monterey California to Baja Coast.
