Makos can swim for short bursts at speeds believed to exceed 40 miles per hour. They will often breach while chasing prey. Length to 12 feet.
They have a sleek torpedo shape and a jumble of sharp teeth.
One of two species in the mackerel shark family, Isuridae.
Range: Found worldwide in warm and temperate oceans.
