In 1903 Creek Street became the now famous center of the local redlight district. More than thirty bordellos or bawdy houses as they were called sprang up over its thirty year history. The area flourished during prohibition. Prostitution was not outlawed until 1953. Today Creek Street is the centerpiece of the local cruise ship tourist trade.
