Male or bull Elephant Seals are much larger than females of the species. They can reach lengths of over 14 feet or more, while females are normally more in the 8 foot range.
Pups are nursed for a short four to eight weeks before being left to fend for themselves. Weaned pups group together spending much of their time onshore for an additional few months but soon move ever farther offshore to forage for food.
