White-Sided playing the kelp game. I have now witnessed this behavior numerous times. An Individual will pickup a piece of drift kelp using either their pectoral fins dorsal fin tail or mouth. A game of keep-away will then ensue with any number of individuals pursuing the one with the kelp.
Most often found off the coast of Southern California from about October through March but can be spotted year round.
Range: Gulf of Alaska to Baja California
Species: Lagenorhynchus obliquidenus
