California Sea Otter
Otters live in shallow coastal waters among kelp beds and areas rich with shellfish.
Sea Otters have no blubber layer unlike seals and sea lions otters rely completely on their thick fur to trap air for insulation.
California Sea Otters grow to be quite large. At about 4 feet in length females can weigh about 45 pounds and males can exceed 65.
A Sea Otter warps up in kelp to anchor itself for an afternoon nap.
