| | This past Saturday the weather had just cleared after a week of intense storms and rain. Decided to head down to La Jolla Cove and checkout the surf. Parked in one of the last remaining spots and looked out to see the next set rolling in. A clean stack of five or six evenly spaced big waves. Pulled out my gear, setup and made a last check of camera settings. Within no more than a couple minutes, the next set appeared in the distance. It was very apparent that the third wave in the sequence was going to be bigger than the rest.
One surfer seemed to realize it and made a move further outside, leaving the rest of the lineup behind. As the wave began to break it continued to build, becoming a solid wall that filled my viewfinder. Positioned perfectly, the surfer paddled in and stood up just as the wave crested. He dropped in, almost free falling down the top of the crest, then pulled it together and went left carving down the huge face. I panned and fired not sure if the composition had been right. Spent several more hours there but never saw another ride like it that day.
