California Brown Pelican Diving

 California Brown Pelican Diving

This was an interesting recent photo op. I was driving along the back most part of Mission Bay where Tecolote Creek flows in. Right up close to the bridge there were six or eight Pelicans actively plunge feeding. It’s quite common for them to hang around this spot but I had never seen them diving from the air here as the water is very shallow. Didn’t have time to stop but later that day decided to swing back by and sure enough there was still pelicans there diving. By the next morning they were gone and I have not seen them there since. Never was able to see what they were feeding on. From the vantage point of the bridge they were basically diving right in front of you. Took a bunch of frames and although backlit I like this one where the lines of the pelicans wings are echoed in the shoreline behind.
